#5. SURVEILLANCE OR LAW ENFORCEMENT

Auburn Police launches free security camera program

The Auburn Police Department has launched a free security camera program that allows residents and businesses to register for free surveillance of their home and business. The program, named Eagle Watch, was created to help police better solve crimes and protect the community. In a news release, the department said that the program was based on other successful programs in other states and cities. They said, "Those successes are measured in the number of crimes solved through the partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve,"

Registering for these surveillance cameras that will be located on the outside of buildings will allow the Eagle Watch program to provide the location, owner contact information, type of camera system, and the retention period of the video to the
APD. The Auburn police say they will encourage all residents, businesses, and places of worship to register for the program because it will allow the department to quickly reach them in case of an emergency regarding surveillance.

This is not the first or last time free surveillance programs have been created and launched in the United States. With crime going up in places around the country, camera surveillance has become the most popular form of outer protection on businesses and homes.

Personally, I believe that surveillance cameras, and other forms of it like camera doorbells, can be extremely helpful to a home or business owner. With how advanced our technology is now, these camera feeds can connect straight to your phone so you constantly have a view of what is happening on your property. This allows knowledge of porch pirates (people who still packages off of porches), break ins, and even suspicious actions of your neighbor. I think if people have access to these systems and can get them, then they should definitely take advantage of that.

CAMERA SURVEILLANCE STATISTICS:

- By 2023, the video surveillance market is projected to be worth 62.6 billion dollars.

- By the end of 2021, over one billion surveillance cameras were installed worldwide.

- As of 2021, 54% of surveillance cameras were in China.

- From 2015 to 2018, the number of installed surveillance cameras in the United States jumped from 47 to 70 million.
