2. PROGRAMMING TRENDS

 Fire TV & Competitors

It has become extremely apparent that streaming services are taking over the television genre. Nowadays, people want to keep the programs they love without paying the price for a cable company. Not to mention paying for many other channels in cable that they will never watch or use. However, with the introduction of streaming services that fixes this issue, other questions are being asked: Where and how can I purchase all of these streaming services? Is there somewhere I can keep all of my services in one place that is convenient to reach and use? Amazon Fire TV, and those like it, presents a solution to those issues.

Amazon Fire TV is a streaming device that connects to a television and allows you to watch and use thousands of streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and others. The device was released in 2014 and has since gone through multiple upgrades. In your Fire TV library, you can store all of your streaming services in one place, making it easy to find the one you are looking for. The FireStick remote even uses voice identification so you can speak into it and get to the service you want without having to type anything into the search bar. As of November of 2021, Fire TV offered 5 versions: Fire TV Stick Lite, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4k Max.

In 2021, Fire TV set the standard for streaming device trends. 85.8% of the apps on Fire TV are free, with the most popular category being Movies & TV. The Fire TV has also reached new heights as it flew to the top of the charts in India in 2020 and 2021. After only being introduced in the country in 2017, the device has quickly gained high recognition.

Amazon's Fire TV is arguably the most popular or well known streaming device. However, there are plenty of competitors that are quickly gaining traction and are competing for the ratings that Amazon has through the Fire TV. Some of the most well known alternatives for the Fire TV are Apple TV, Google Chromecast, and Roku. As cable television becomes a thing of the past, more and more streaming devices are going to pop up and I think it is inevitable that the market is going to get more competitive in the near future.

In order to stay relevant and in the game, Fire TV also allows users to log into their social media on the Fire TV. This includes Instagram, Facebook, and newly added TikTok (but only in United States and Canada). Fire TV also actively uses Twitter to promote the device, new updates, and to stay up to date with trends - like referencing popular game 'Wordle' in one of their recent tweets.
